Rev. Hannah Bergstrom de Leon
Interim Pastor
Pastor Hannah comes to Carlton Hills from Minnesota where she served a country church for the past eleven years. She was born and raised in Iowa and moved to Minnesota after graduating college from Iowa State University. She met her partner, Leonel, while teaching English as a Second language for a contract alternative school in South Minneapolis. After a couple of years she left teaching and began working as a project manager for a small electronic health records company. As she approached her thirties she received her call to the ministry and began classes at Luther Seminary in the summer of 2010.
Pr. Hannah graduated Luther in December of 2014 a week prior to the birth of twin boys Ezekiel (Zeke) and Emiliano (Milo) Leon. Her family moved to Tijuana to be closer to Leonel’s family and be a support as his mother ages and she now has a one year contract with Carlton Hills helping us discern together what God is calling us to in this next chapter of our life together.

Deanna is a retired choral/music teacher from San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as an accompanist and church musician. She holds a BA from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in Music/Art and an MA in Arts Administration from Point Loma Nazarene University. Her unfinished EDD is in Aesthetic Education.
While teaching, she held volunteer leadership positions with the Choral Conductors Guild, the local Music Educators National Conference (MENC, now known as National Association for Music Education)

Upon retirement, she moved to Washington State and became a Master Gardener. While living in the Pacific Northwest, she was one of the pianists at the Portland Airport which she notes was “so much fun!” Now that she is back in San Diego, she has accompanied several choruses, volunteered at the local community garden and contributes to the newsletter in her community. She also paints murals, beautiful mandalas, pet pictures on rocks and beach scenes on driftwood.
Deanna notes that she is very happy to accept the call to serve Carlton Hills Lutheran Church as organist/musician. We are just as excited to have her with us!
